The McDonald’s Brand Is Famous And So Is Its Logo

Mcdonald's: The fast-food restaurant chain that revolutionized the restaurant industry.

Mcdonald's was once a single burger joint. Now its worth $106.4 Billion and is the world’s 9th most valuable brand. McDonald’s dominates the world of fast food.

The restaurant chain was founded in 1940, starting out as a simple hamburger stand. But once Ray Kruc got involved, the entire brand got a facelift.

Much like the restaurant and food itself, the McDonald’s logo is infamous.

The iconic golden arches in the shape of an “m” were inspired by the architectural arches that structured the first McDonald’s restaurants.

In the logo, the arches were ignored until Ray Kroc bought the business in its entirety in 1961. From this point on, the arches stood strong and resolute like the chain itself.

Nowadays, they represent the symbolic gateway that any respectable food & beverage branding agency needs to pass through (and emulate) on the road to similar success.

Mcdonald’s has grown tremendously from its humble roots. You can now find a Mcdonald’s in almost every country you visit. More often than not, you’ll find one of these stores on every other block.

This is of course in part due to the cheap food and fast service McDonald’s is known for, but what makes the brand so recognizable is that shining golden emblem.

The McDonald’s Logo Shape Was Created To Get You Salivating

The first thing you notice when you pull up to a McDonald’s restaurant are those big, strong golden arches. These arches symbolize stability, a place where customers can relax and enjoy a burger after a blistering day at work.

People from China to South Africa recognize this logo because of its simplicity. It’s a single “m”, and it's golden. There are no other logos like it on the planet. It’s McDonald’s, that's it.

The logo is recognized by three-year-old toddlers. This is quite literally, the gold standard (pun intended) of the effectiveness that simplicity breeds in logo design. Consumers remember brand symbols with the fewest elements.

The best logo design companies not only utilize symbolism to visually embody the brands they're partnering with but aim to create lasting symbols that others will relate to. It's a neverending circle.

These aren’t traditional arches, no there’s a softness and a tasty quality to them. The arches symbolize strength and authority, but there’s also creativity to this design that gives it an edge that gets you salivating. These rounded arches also look like little french fries! (Or is that just me?)

But whatever shape you think these arches take, there’s no denying the power and authority that radiate off of them. This minimalist design doesn’t lose impact for its simplicity. On the contrary, it adds depth and resolve to the design and the brand as a whole.

McDonad’s Logo Design Uses Color To Stimulate Your Taste Buds

The two main colors within this logo design are yellow and red. They are bright, eye-catching and in your face, but they have a deeper meaning than just simply being bright colors used to turn heads.

The red color in the square background triggers stimulation, appetite, and hunger. It attracts attention. Yellow, or gold, is the most visible color in daylight. That's why we can see the McDonald’s M from a distance.

It’s why everyone’s kids can spot a McDonalds from a mile away. The combination of red and yellow communicates speed and quickness. And that, my friends, is why red and yellow are the most popular color combinations in all fast food restaurants.

These colors were chosen with a purpose, and its creators wanted everyone to have McDonald’s on the brain. But there is also a deeper meaning to these colors far beyond their visibility. A golden opportunity lay hidden inside the golden color as it alludes to the idea that owning a McDonald’s is like owning your very own gold mine. Plus, the primary colors resemble the ultimate burger-and-fries condiments: ketchup and mustard.

There’s an authenticity and a history to this design. It has stood the test of time and continues to stand as a strong and iconic logo to this day.

The McDonald’s logo uses color psychology, history, and simplicity to trigger consumer action when hunger strikes.

These arches are easy to remember, the shape is simple and the size is immense. The colors shine for miles on end, and they are colors that stick with you, leave an impression and create a reaction that gets your mouth watering. This logo was created with intention, and it’s not going away any time soon.
