Frank + Oak is a Canadian-based fashion brand that has recently expanded to the US with a handful of pop-up shops and ecommerce. The brand is known for its minimalist aesthetic and cool, contemporary pieces.
This aesthetic extends to the mobile app. Full-screen photography dominates the homescreen, which features a set of banners designed to highlight products, stores, and some of the brand’s unique features like their Style Plan.
The app features a “Scan + Shop” feature which allows users to scan a barcode from one of their products to learn more about it, or save it to their favorites. It’s a smart way of enhancing the utility of the app, even for users who engage with it while in-store.
Navigation is done via a collapsible left menu, and then further narrowing of product categories is accessed via an image menu. Large product imagery on category pages makes the browsing experience feel easy and enjoyable. On product pages, key information like product name and the add-to-cart button are collapsed into a sticky menu as users scroll downward to see more information.
One of the app’s most interesting features is its 24/7 style advice, which connect users to a stylist who can help answer questions and give fashion tips no matter the time of day.
The app’s aesthetic is very much aligned to that of the brand’s clothes -- cool, casual, and minimal. The background is white and text is done in bold black. Lighter weight supporting text is shown in more muted greys, and a bright red accent color is used to indicate sale prices and to highlight calls-to-action.
Frank + Oak is a cool app design in the fashion & beauty industry.
